When a medical crisis hits, the people who build our communities should not have to face it alone.
Beginning in 2027, Estera Compassionate Care will provide short term assistance to members of Oregon's building and skilled trades community facing serious medical and family medical crises.
Our purpose is simple: help stabilize families during an unexpected medical event by addressing essential needs directly connected to that crisis.
Strong Communities Are Built When
the People Who Build Them Are Supported
The skilled trades carry the physical, emotional, and financial weight of building our communities. Yet when life takes an unexpected turn, many trade workers face hardship without the safety nets found in more traditional employment structures.
A serious illness, injury or family medical emergency can change everything overnight. Lost work, travel for treatment, temporary lodging, childcare and other unexpected costs can quickly put pressure on a household already dealing with a crisis.
Estera exists to stand in that gap with care, dignity, and practical support.
What Compassionate Care Does
Compassionate Care provides limited, short term assistance when a serious medical or family medical crisis creates an immediate essential need for an eligible member of Oregon's trade community.
Assisance may include:

Medical costs not otherwised covered

Temporary lodging required for medical treatment

Transportation associated with treatment

Temporary assistance with essential household needs when a medical crisis significantly interrupts income

Childcare or family support directly related to hospitalization or treatment

Funeral or bereavement expenses associated with a qualifying event
Compassionate Care is not a general financial assistance program. Assistance is limited to qualifying needs directly connected to an approved medical or family medical crisis.

Becoming Real
What began as one of Estera's founding commitments is becoming an active program.
Beginning in 2027, Estera will launch Compassionate Care with the support of participating builders and industry partners who believe that strengthening the trades means supporting the people behind them.
This next step allows Estera to begin accepting requests for care from members of the trade community facing unexpected hardship.
We will start intentionally, learn from every situation, protect the dignity of the people we serve, and continue building a sustainable network of builders, trade partners, organizations and individuals who want to take care of the people who take care of our communities.
How It Works
1. Request
A trade worker, employer or industry partner submits a confidential request for care.
2. Review
Estera reviews the situation, identifies the immediate need and determines how Compassionate Care may be able to help.
3. Connect
When appropriate, Estera connects the individual or family with existing community resources and organizations that specialize in the support they need.
4. Care
Where a gap remains and the request fits within Compassionate Care guidelines, Estera may provide direct short term assistance.
Every situation is different. Every request is reviewed individually. Assistance is based on eligibility, circumstances and available Compassionate Care resources.
Care That Strengthens, Not Replaces
Compassionate Care is not about creating dependency. It is about meeting people in a difficult moment, helping remove an immediate burden, and giving individuals and families the breathing room they need to regain their footing.
When trade workers know they are supported during a serious medical or family crisis, the impact reaches beyond the individual. Families gain stability. Workers have a better opportunity to return with confidence.
Employers retain experienced people. And the industry becomes stronger because the people behind the work know they matter.
Caring for people is not separate from building strong communities.
It is foundational to them.
2027 Compassionate Care applications will be available starting January 2027.
